“… He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ Himself …”
Ephesians 2:5
Spectacular grace
Fran Selkirk
Paul writes to the Ephesians that they are spiritually dead, due to their continued disobedience and sin, so cutting themselves off from God. But by sending Jesus to the world to live and die for their salvation, they are brought to life again. They are made part of God’s new creation. They are given new lives to live out fully, until they receive the promised life eternal.
WOW! They and we are saved by grace alone.
Verses 4 and 5 spoke to my heart. What words of joy: a promise that is abundant, excessive; a cornucopia of possibilities laid before us through the grace and mercy of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. What did I or you ever do, say or think that made us worthy of such a pure and life-saving gift? All we did was hear His word, accept his sacrifice, pledge our lives to his service and know his love, unstinting and total.
How can we but live out our lives, sharing the Good News and praying for our world that it might know and acknowledge the grace and mercy of God in action?
This message is so spectacular, so invaluable, it prompts us to prayer.
Shall we pray?
Almighty, merciful God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, by your grace commission us today to minister to your world the Good News, which is alive and working for each person in the world. Amen.
