Pathway to Pentecost: Daily Thought for Saturday 16th May 2026

Daily Thought for Saturday 16th May 2026

Elisha then picked up Elijahs cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.

The company of the prophets from Jericho who were watching, said, The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.”

And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.
2 Kings 2:13-15

Not done with us yet!

As we continue on our meditations towards Pentecost, ponder on this exchange. Elijah was called home, but God’s Spirit wasn’t! The Spirit of the Lord that was upon Elijah passed on to Elisha. Elijah’s cloak, the symbol of the Lord’s calling and authority, was passed on to Elisha. Elisha was faithful and committed, and God used him in amazing ways!

As we get closer to Pentecost, remember that God’s Spirit is no longer only for particular people at particular times! Remember that God is not done with us yet! As we faithfully seek him, may he fill us afresh with his Spirit, to continue his mission in the time that we have been given.

The company of prophets saw the Spirit resting on Elisha. May we see the Spirit of God at work in and through us. The Spirit of God that rested upon Elijah and Elisha is alive and at work in us today, call upon him now and receive all that he has for you.

Shall we pray?
Gracious God, may you pour your Spirit afresh on me today. I need more of you each day, and I know I leak! May I walk in the power of the Spirit to live faithfully for you all the days that you give me. Amen.
