“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
Waiting on the Lord
Keith Mack
These verses show how David trusts in God’s goodness. Despite the trials and temptations, he has confidence that he will see God’s blessings, not just in eternity, but here on earth. He just needs to wait!
I find waiting for things to be a real challenge! Waiting for the train (I don’t do buses if I can help it), the dishwasher, the football results or the kids – whatever it is, I get uptight pretty quick if I have to wait too long!
Waiting is often the most challenging aspect of our faith. It requires trust in God’s timing, and surrendering our control. When life feels overwhelming or God’s promises seem delayed, it’s easy to grow impatient or discouraged. David reminds us that waiting on God isn’t passive. It’s an active choice to stand firm in faith, to remain hopeful in the midst of uncertainty.
David’s confidence wasn’t in circumstances. Rather, he had confidence in God’s character. He believed in God’s unchanging goodness, even when life didn’t make sense.
For us, this means trusting that God is working behind the scenes, even when we can’t see that happening. His delays are not denials but opportunities for us to grow and to depend on Him.
Take heart today. Strengthen yourself in God’s Word and presence. Remember how he has been faithful in the past and will be again.
Know that his promises are true, and his goodness is real.
Whatever you’re facing, you will see his goodness in the land of the living.
Be patient. God’s timing is perfect, and his plans for you are worth the wait.
Shall we pray?:
Lord, you know my heart, where I struggle and where I lose patience. May you grow in me a faith that remains full of hope, even when the world around me seems to have none. May I always trust you and wait upon you, and surely I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Amen.
